PISD Health Update #5- Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Good evening Pampa ISD students, staff, families, and community.  As I stare at the blank screen, my thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones to this unfamiliar virus.  My thoughts are with all of the students, parents, and staff that will be impacted by the decisions we are making.

As you know, we have been gathering data, facts, guidance, and staying in constant communication with regional and local health and city/county authorities.  At this time, we believe that it is in the best long-term interest of public health and wellness that our students not return to school next week.  We are working on the details, planning, and timelines for distance learning options and the distribution of food to address children’s nutritional needs and will be sharing those with families, staff, etc. as soon as possible.  All staff can expect communication and guidance from your immediate supervisor within the next 24 hours.

As you know, this remains a fluid situation, and the facts, events, and implications of those factors impact our decisions daily.  For now, our students and families need to prepare to stay home from March 23 through March 27.  Our staff needs to prepare to be available for planning, training, preparation, etc. during this time.

As we have been doing, we will keep you up to date on our decisions and plans every evening at 6:00 pm.

The PISD School Board will be meeting tomorrow at 5:45 pm at the Administration Building at 1233 N Hobart.  They will discuss and address resolutions to provide for operational flexibility during this crisis so that we can make the necessary decisions on a daily basis.

I urge you to visit our Pampa ISD Website with the most up-to-date information on COVID-19, how the virus spreads, and why we must do our part to stop the spread.  We will be adding information, helpful links, and guidance as information is available.

This has been and will remain an evolving situation and we will continue monitoring the information and do our very best to keep everyone informed.  Please continue accessing our website and communication posts for the most accurate and up-to-date information.  We appreciate your patience, support, flexibility, and yes--- your prayers---during this uncertain time for everyone.

Dr. Tanya Larkin, Superintendent
