Thanks to the generosity of the Pampa Education Foundation, students at Wilson Elementary are exploring science in an exciting new way. The foundation awarded a $2,500 grant to Wilson Elementary to help create a hands-on Science Learning Room designed especially for young learners.
The space-themed room was created for Head Start and Pre-K students, providing an immersive environment where children can explore early literacy, numeracy, and science concepts through interactive play and discovery.
Teachers and administrators at Wilson Elementary designed the project to give students opportunities to learn through exploration. Research shows young children learn best when they can actively engage with materials, and the new science learning room is built around that idea.
Inside the room, students can pretend to blast off in rocket ship play tents, explore the solar system through puzzles and hands-on toys, and investigate letters and numbers through sensory bins filled with space-themed materials. The room also includes astronaut dress-up sets, magnetic building toys, projectors, books, telescopes, and other interactive tools designed to spark curiosity and imagination.
The grant proposal emphasized that these “experience rooms” transform learning into something exciting and meaningful for young students by combining academic concepts with play-based exploration.
More than 200 Wilson Elementary students will benefit directly from the new learning space, with plans to expand the concept to additional experience rooms in the future. Teachers say the room will support the development of important early learning skills while giving students a fun environment to explore and discover.
By investing in innovative classroom experiences like this one, the Pampa Education Foundation continues to support teachers and create new opportunities for students across the district.
Wilson Elementary will begin enrolling new little Harvesters at their Pre-K Fiesta on Thursday, April 9th from 10:00-1:00 and 5:00-6:30. Your child can be a part of these great learning centers too!
