Competing against 193,000 other Advanced Placement (AP) students from across the U.S. and other countries, the 2025 Spanish 4 AP “Program of Excellence” class at Pampa High School has done the unthinkable by besting the “Impossible” National Scores of the PHS 2023 Spanish AP class. Individually, 9 of the 13 students of the 2025 class scored the top score of a “5” on this difficult test which led to a phenomenal 4.54 cumulative average score to claim the PHS record for the highest average class score ever posted on an AP National Exam! The 2023 class had previously scored an “impossible” 4.50 class average and it was believed that mark would last indefinitely!
How strong was the 2025 AP class? Compare their average score of 4.54 to the average score of 3.31 for the 36,720 other Texas AP students who took the same test. That is over 20% higher than the rest of our state! 69% of the 2025 class posted a “5” compared to only 17% for the state of Texas, that is a 50% higher level of production from the PHS students. To achieve these dominant levels of performance on an AP Exam the students and teacher must work together as a team to master the strategies and rigorous skills necessary to handle the pressure of these intimidating national tests.
Scoring a “5” on the Spanish AP Exam earns a student college credit for the first four Spanish classes in the curriculum of a 4-year university. A “4” earns credit for Spanish 1, Spanish 2, and Intermediate Spanish. A “3” earns credit for Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. The students pay no books or tuition and don’t have to attend these classes, saving our students many 10’s of 1,000’s of dollars! The 2025 AP Spanish 4 class earned 46 free college classes or 184 College Credit hours in just this single exam! Testing out of these college classes while still in high school also allows our students to easily add a minor or major in Spanish to their chosen field of study.
Thank you to this incredible 2025 version of the Spanish 4 AP class and the way they have represented themselves, their families, Pampa High School, and the community of Pampa to our State and Nation. Also, thank you to each student for your desire to perfect your Bilingualism, knowing that languages ultimately represent relationships and are the bridge to cultural understanding.
