Every Friday evening in the fall you will see a player wearing No. 32. This number holds a special place in Pampa High School football history because it was worn by Pro Football Hall of Famer Zach Thomas. As a tribute to Thomas, the Pampa High School football program has retired No. 32 from regular jersey circulation. From this day forward, jersey No. 32 will be worn every Friday night by a different individual. That individual embodies that competitive spirit which Zach Thomas displayed every Friday night in the fall. The individual will be voted on by the coaching staff.
The eighth player selected by the coaching staff to wear No. 32 during the 2026 season is sophomore wide receiver and defensive back Paxton Daniels. He normally wears No. 9, but for the eighth game against Dumas on Friday, he will be wearing the Zach Thomas No. 32.
For Pampa Harvester football players, wearing the legendary No. 32 jersey is more than just putting on a different number for a Friday night game. It is an opportunity to represent the tradition, pride and determination associated with former Harvester standout and NFL great Zach Thomas.
For Daniels, being chosen by his coaches is an honor he does not take lightly.
"It feels amazing," Daniels said when asked about receiving the recognition.
The weekly honor is an opportunity for a Harvester player to represent the legacy of Thomas, whose determination, toughness and dedication helped make him one of the most recognizable athletes in Pampa history.
For Daniels, the selection is also a reflection of the work he has put into developing his abilities and making an impact on the football field.
"To me, wearing the number 32 is that I've shown my talent on the field and shown people what I can do," Daniels said.
While football is an important part of Daniels' life, his athletic interests extend beyond the gridiron. He also participates in baseball and basketball, keeping him active in athletics throughout the school year.
Daniels hopes to continue playing sports at the collegiate level someday. When asked where he might like to attend college, he mentioned Texas as a possibility, although his future plans are still taking shape.
Away from athletics, Daniels enjoys spending time with his friends and participating in his other sports.
In the classroom, history stands out as his favorite subject because of his interest in learning about the past.
"My favorite subject is history because I find interest in all, like, the past events," Daniels said.
Looking beyond high school, Daniels already has an idea of the career path he would like to pursue, sharing that he hopes to become an electrician.
Although being selected to wear No. 32 is a personal accomplishment, Daniels was quick to recognize the people who have helped him reach this point.
"I want to thank my coaches for giving me this opportunity and believing in my ability on the field," Daniels said.
He also expressed appreciation for those who have supported him throughout his athletic journey.
"I want to thank my teammates and family for all the support and helping me be successful in the things I do," Daniels said.
As Daniels prepares to take the field wearing No. 32, he will do so representing not only the legacy of one of Pampa's greatest football players, but also the coaches, teammates and family members who have helped him along the way.
For Daniels, the honor serves as another reminder that hard work, dedication and believing in his abilities can create opportunities both on and off the football field.
Position coach Jason Farmer praised Daniels for his relentless work ethic, attention to detail and competitive spirit, qualities that make him a deserving recipient of the prestigious No. 32 honor.
“Paxton is one of those guys that you love having on your team,” Farmer said. “He shows up every day and works his tail off. He makes sure he knows what his job is and exactly how he needs to do it. ‘Bones’ is a fierce competitor and he brings that edge when it is time to compete. It is enjoyable coaching this young man. Great things are ahead of him.”
