Emery Lowenstein is a senior on the Lady Harvester swim team. Lowenstein has established herself as a leader within the Lady Harvester swimming program while continuing to challenge herself academically and through other extracurricular activities. In the Lubbock Mini Invitational last week she placed 4th in the 200-yard freestyle and 5th in the 100-yard backstroke. She was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team which placed 3rd.

While Lowenstein works hard to improve her performances in the pool, she takes just as much pride in maintaining strong grades and giving her best effort in everything she does outside of athletics.

“Something people may not know about me away from athletics is that I don't only work hard in swim, but I also work hard to keep all my grades the highest they can be,” Lowenstein said. “I put a lot of effort in my classes and every extracurricular I do.”

Being selected as Athlete of the Week is a meaningful accomplishment for Lowenstein, who sees the recognition as confirmation that her dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed.

“What it means to me to be Athlete of the Week is that something I'm doing stood out and has been noticed,” Lowenstein said. “My hard work has paid off to be selected.”

With the swimming season continuing, Lowenstein has set several personal goals that she hopes to accomplish before the year comes to an end. Among those goals are improving her time in the 100-yard freestyle and earning an opportunity to compete at the state level.

“My goals for the rest of the season is to drop my 100 time to under a minute and to make it to state as an individual,” Lowenstein said. “I want to prove that I have grown since freshman year.”

Although Lowenstein does not participate in other sports, she stays busy with several extracurricular activities, including yearbook and art. She believes focusing her athletic efforts on swimming allows her to give the sport her full attention.

“I don't participate in any other sports, as I am very active with every other extracurricular, like yearbook and art,” Lowenstein said. “I only do swim because I like to devote my time and work into one thing.”

Looking beyond her high school career, Lowenstein already has plans for her future. She hopes to attend West Texas A&M University and pursue a career helping individuals struggling with addiction. She also wants to remain involved in swimming by sharing her knowledge and experience with others.

“My plans for after high school is to study at WT and become an addictions therapist or counselor,” Lowenstein said. “I also want to help on the side of teaching people how to swim and compete as well as I did.”

Outside of the pool, Lowenstein enjoys expressing her creativity through art. She appreciates the opportunity to work alongside classmates who share similar interests while continuing to develop her artistic abilities.

“My favorite subject is art because I love my art class because I have met many other kids who love doing crafts and making things as much as I do,” Lowenstein said. “I am able to let my creativity flow and be critiqued on how I can be even better. It makes me encouraged to keep going in my art journey.”

Head Swimming Coach Jeremiah Day praised Lowenstein for the example she sets within the program, both through her performances and her leadership.

“Emery exemplifies the epitome of a Harvester athlete,” Day said. “She works hard each day and is consistently one of our top performers in the program. She sets the example for younger swimmers and brings a competitive drive to practice and competitions. I couldn't ask for a better leader.”

Jeryn Owens, a junior running back who wears No. 6 for the Pampa Harvesters, continues to make an impact through his dedication, work ethic and competitive spirit. For Owens, those qualities are important both on and off the field as he continues working to improve himself and help his team succeed. Owens returned five kickoffs for 254 yards, averaging 50.8 yards per return, including a touchdown return and a long of 95 yards in the game against Randall on Friday night.

Owens has been selected as the Harvester Athlete of the Week, an honor that recognizes his dedication and commitment to the program.

When asked what people might not know about him outside of athletics, Owens shared that he values staying productive and maintaining a consistent routine.

“Something people may not know about me away from athletics is that I'm very productive and get around a lot, and I stay on a routine,” Owens said.

Being recognized as Athlete of the Week is something Owens does not take lightly. He sees the honor as a reflection of the effort he has put into becoming a better athlete.

“Getting named Athlete of the Week means a lot to me because it shows how hard I've worked for it,” Owens said.

As the season continues, Owens is focused on more than just his individual performance. He wants to maintain a positive attitude, help his teammates accomplish their goals and continue being someone others can depend on.

“My goals for the rest of the season are going to be for me to keep a good attitude, get the team where they need to be and be trustworthy,” Owens said.

In addition to his current athletic commitments, Owens also participates in basketball, giving him another opportunity to compete and represent the Green and Gold.

While athletics are an important part of his high school experience, Owens is also thinking about what his future might hold after graduation.

“My plan after high school is either to go work with my dad or go to the Army,” Owens said.

Inside the classroom, Owens said history is his favorite subject because of the opportunity it provides to learn about the past and better understand the world.

“My favorite subject is history because it shows a lot of what happened in our world,” Owens said.

Whether he is competing in athletics, working in the classroom or preparing for his future, Owens continues to emphasize the importance of hard work, maintaining a positive attitude and being dependable.

His recognition as Harvester Athlete of the Week is a reflection of the effort he has invested, and he hopes to carry that same dedication into the remainder of the season and whatever opportunities await him after high school.

Running backs coach Seth Foster praised Jeryn Owens for his explosive playmaking ability, competitive spirit and dedication to improving each day.

“Jeryn is a great kid and a dynamic player that’s scary for defenses with the ball in his hands,” Foster said. “He shows up every day and works hard. He’s a fierce competitor that wants to be great at what he does, and when he’s focused on that, he’s one you want to get the ball to. I’m excited to see what he does the rest of the season and beyond.”

Congratulations to Emery and Jeryn for representing the Harvesters with pride, dedication and leadership.
