The Pampa cross country teams opened their season with a strong performance this past weekend, bringing home several medals from the Pecos meet.
Runners finishing in the Top 30 earned medals, and Pampa had seven athletes reach that mark between the boys and girls races.
Despite competing with just two runners on the girls side, both Lady Harvesters turned in Top-10 finishes. Sophomore Zoe Reynolds led the way with an eighth-place finish, while Junior Perla Hernandez crossed the line in 10th.
The Harvesters also put together a strong team performance, finishing third overall in the boys division. Four Pampa runners placed inside the Top 20.
Senior Ryan Resendiz paced the Harvesters with a 12th-place finish, followed closely by Junior Jesus Montano in 15th and Senior Edwin Madrid in 17th. Said Saldierna rounded out Pampa’s Top-20 finishers by placing 20th.
Freshman Guillermo Robledo also earned a medal for the Harvesters, finishing 30th.
With two Top-10 finishes on the girls side and a third-place team finish for the boys, Pampa came away from its first meet of the season with plenty of positives as the Harvesters and Lady Harvesters begin building toward the rest of the cross country schedule.
The Harvesters will travel to Balko, Okla. on Thursday, Aug. 27 and Perryton on Saturday, Aug. 29 for their next meets. The top 20 will medal at the Balko Meet. Stay tuned for a season preview article in the next week or two.
