The Pampa Lady Harvesters (5-6, 7-16) hosted the Hereford Lady Whitefaces on Tuesday night. It also was Future Lady Harvester night where the young athletes got to come out and run on to the field with the current Lady Harvesters.

“The Hereford game was a wild ride, but our Lady Harvesters fought to the bitter end. We had success early, scoring four runs to keep the score 1-4 up until the fifth inning. We had a few compounding errors with runners in scoring position that led Hereford to score three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game. I knew that if we just got out of that inning we would be able to get the outs needed to get back up to the plate, and make something happen,” Head Coach Denise Browning said.

Hereford began the game by getting a hit, sacrifice bunt, and walk to score first in the top of the first to lead 1-0.

Sophomore Myla Zarate got the first hit of the game for the Lady Harvesters with a single on a hard grounder to left. Sophomore Brooklyn Warren smacked a double on a fly ball to left to score Zarate and tie the game at one. Junior Michelle Gallegos hit a grounder and was able to reach on an error to score Warren and give Pampa the 2-1 lead.

After back-to-back one out singles in the top of the second, Senior Hallie Reynolds retired the next two batters to end the scoring threat, one via the strikeout.

Pampa went down in 1-2-3 order in the second.

Hereford got a walk as the lone baserunner in the third.

With two outs in the third, Freshman Addi Bagwell drew a walk. Warren then singled on a line drive to left. Gallegos continued the hit parade with a line drive to center to score Bagwell and put Pampa ahead by two at 3-1.

Hereford had two runners on base after a single and an error with just one out in the inning. However, great defense by Pampa forced a double play on a bunt when Freshman Third Baseman Emme Hill scooped it and tossed it to Warren at catcher for the second out of the double play and to end the inning.

Freshman Blayklee Cooper walked in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Ella Hudson smashed a line drive double to right to score Cooper and Pampa Led 4-1.

The Lady Whitefaces crawled back in the fifth with back-to-back singles and then a bunt to score a run. They scored two more runs on a wild pitch and a fly out to tie the game up at 4-4. Reynolds got a strikeout and a lineout to Bagwell at second base to end the inning.

Bagwell was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the fifth before an unlucky double play. A Gallegos walk was the only other base runner of the inning for Pampa.

Reynolds sat down the Herd in 1-2-3 order in the sixth with a ground out to Hill, a strikeout, and a line out to Zarate.

Pampa also went down in 1-2-3 order in their half of the sixth.

Another great pitching inning by Reynolds sat down the Lady Whitefaces in 1-2-3 order in the seventh. The outs came via a fly out to Junior Payton Gowin, twice, followed by a line out to Zarate.

Hudson came up to begin the bottom of the seventh with a walk. With one out, Bagwell also walked. Runners were set up on the corners after Hudson went to third on a wild pitch. With Warren at-bat, Hudson came home on an error by the third baseman to give the Lady Harvesters the walk-off win, 5-4.

Final Score: Pampa 5, Hereford 4.

“Myla and Addi had some amazing plays in the infield, and Michelle was outstanding on first base which helped us get out of the last two innings without Hereford scoring runs. We have had some seventh innings that the game has gotten away from us, but the girls fought deep, and ran the bases aggressively to lead Ella to steal home for the win,” Browning said.
