The Pampa Lady Harvesters (4-6, 6-16) hosted the Borger Lady Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon before the Good Friday school holiday. They also played at West Plains on Tuesday night and hosted Canyon last Thursday. Pampa lost 12-0 to Canyon and 9-3 to West Plains before coming back home to beat Borger 15-0. It also was Senior Night for Ella Hudson, Alicia Jiminez, and Hallie Reynolds. It is always a special night to get the victory on Senior Night and even better against the rival Bulldogs.

“We play Hereford at home Tuesday for our Future Lady Harvester Night. We hope to see a lot of girls playing softball out at the optimist, or playing on travel ball teams out at the ballpark. It’s exciting to watch our team grow, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds, so getting those young girls out will be so much fun!” Head Coach Denise Browning said.

Let’s recap the games from the past few days starting with the positive result from Thursday!

Borger Game

Reynolds was in the circle for Pampa and shut down the Borger offense in 1-2-3 order in the first inning. Fellow Senior, Hudson got things going with a leadoff single on a hard grounder to center in the bottom of the first. Unfortunately, Pampa could not get any runs from that hit.

Reynolds shut down the Lady Bulldogs quickly in the second with a strikeout to end the frame. Junior Michelle Gallegos started off the second inning with a single on a grounder to center. Freshman Emme Hill brought Gallegos home on a double on a line drive to center and Pampa led 1-0. With one out, Reynolds doubled on a line drive to center to score Hill and make it 2-0.

Reynolds made sure to keep it 2-0 as she retired Borger in 1-2-3 order again in the third.

Freshman Addi Bagwell began the third by reaching on an error. Gallegos singled on a ground ball to center to score Bagwell and it was 3-0 Pampa. Hill reached on an error by the third baseman to score Gallegos and it was 4-0. Junior Payton Gowin smacked a homer to left field to score herself and Hill. Pampa now led 6-0.

Borger went quietly in the fourth and Reynolds recorded another strikeout.

Hudson singled on a grounder to left to begin the fourth. Bagwell reached on an error by the shortstop and this also scored Hudson to give Pampa the 7-0 lead. Sophomore Brooklyn Warren singled on a grounder to center to score Bagwell and make it 8-0. Gallegos singled on a grounder to center to score Warren and Pampa led 9-0. Hill walked before Gowin came up and singled to score HIll and Pampa led 11-0. Gallegos had come home to score on a wild pitch for the 10th run earlier in the at-bat. Reynolds walked. Jiminez reached on an error by the second baseman to score Gowin and Pampa led 12-0. Hudson singled on a line drive to left to score Reynolds and Pampa led 13-0. Sophomore Myla Zarate was hit by a pitch. Bagwell singled. Warren came up with two outs and the bases loaded. She would single on a line drive to center to score Zarate and Hudson to give Pampa the big 15-0 lead.

Borger was down to their final three outs with the run-rule looming. Reynolds sat them down in 1-2-3 order, needing only six pitches to get through the inning.

Final Score (5): Pampa 15, Borger 0.

“We got to play Borger at home this week, and we had a superior showing for Senior Night. Ella Hudson, and Michelle Gallegos both had hits on all three at-bats, and almost every player that saw the plate got a hit. Hallie Reynolds pitched very well, and we were able to run rule them, 15-0, in the 5th inning. It was a fun game to coach, and definitely gave a lot of experience on the base path, and helps us focus on finishing what we started,” Browning said.

Stat Recap

Reynolds pitched a complete game five innings, allowing just one hit, striking out two batters, and getting the win. She also went 1-2 at the plate with a double, an RBI, a walk, and a run scored.

Hudson was 3-3 with an RBI, a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Zarate scored a run. Bagwell had a hit, stole a bag, and two runs scored. Warren was 2-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. West Plains

Pampa faced a very strong pitcher in Jaylen Kaps against the Lady Wolves on Tuesday night. Bagwell had a single in the first inning but that was all the offense for Pampa. After a two-out single, followed by a walk, Reynolds got the last batter of the first out on strikes to end the threat for West Plains.

Both teams went down in 1-2-3 order in the second with Reynolds recording back-to-back strikeouts.

Pampa went down in 1-2-3 order in the third. After striking out the first batter of the third, Reynolds gave up a walk and a single. A homerun for West Plains put the Lady Wolves on top 3-0 after three innings.

Pampa could not get any offense going in the fourth either before West Plains added a couple more runs in the fourth to make it 5-0.

West Plains exploded in the fifth to take a commanding 9-0 lead as Pampa was unable to get anything going in their half of the inning.

Both teams went quietly in the sixth to keep the score where it was.

Bagwell and Warren both were hit by pitches in the seventh. Gallegos singled on a grounder to left to score Bagwell and the Lady Harvesters’ first run of the game. Hill walked. Gowin singled on a pop fly to left to score Gallegos. Warren had come home to score on a wild pitch during the at-bat. Pampa now trailed 9-3. Unfortunately, the rally could not continue.

Final Score: West Plains 9, Pampa 3.

“We traveled to West Plains, and we really fought hard and had a strong showing. We once again struggled at the plate against Kaps, but we never gave up. Addi Bagwell, Payton Gowin, and Michelle Gallegos all had hits in the game. We definitely did not quit in this game with three runs scored in the seventh to take the score to 3-9,” Browning said.

Stat Recap

Reynolds pitched a complete game six innings. She recorded five strikeouts but got the loss. Bagwell had a hit and a run scored. Warren scored a run. Gallegos was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Hill walked. Gowin was 1-3 with an RBI.

Canyon broke the game open in the top of the fifth to score three more and take a 4-0 lead. Nothing else happened for either team before Canyon got a homerun in the seventh to take a 7-0 lead. The runs kept coming and the Lady Eagles led 12-0 before Pampa would come to bat for the final time.

Bagwell recorded the lone hit of the game for Pampa in the seventh with two outs.

Final Score: Canyon 12, Pampa 0

“We have now started the second half of district after a great start by our Lady Harvesters. We played Canyon here at home, and we struggled a bit at the plate. We played well defensively with a 0-1 ball game going into the fifth inning. Defensively our team has really come together, but we have struggled to finish and get our final outs during the seventh,” Browning said.

Stat Recap

Bagwell had the lone hit for Pampa. Sophomore Kinley Duke had a walk.
