The Pampa Lady Harvesters (3-4, 5-14) traveled to Amarillo on Saturday of Spring Break for a matchup with the Randall Lady Raiders.

With two outs in the top of the first, Junior Michelle Gallegos singled on a pop fly to center and Sophomore Brooklyn Warren also singled on a line drive to left. The threat for the Lady Harvesters ended after those two got on base. Randall began the scoring by taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Both teams went quietly in the second inning. Pampa’s bats also stayed quiet in the third but the Lady Raiders added one more run to their lead in the third.

Gallegos hit another single to begin the fourth but Pampa could not get anything going from it. Randall added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-0.

Freshman Addi Bagwell singled on a grounder to shortstop to begin the fifth for the Lady Harvesters. Unfortunately, they could not string together a run. Randall went quietly in the fifth.

Pampa’s bats were quiet in the sixth. Randall exploded in the sixth for six runs to enforce the run-rule.

Final Score (6): Randall 10, Pampa 0.

Stat Recap

Gallegos was 2-3 with a stolen base. Warren was 1-2. Bagwell was 1-2 with a stolen base.

Senior Hallie Reynolds had four strikeouts in the circle.

“We traveled to Randall over spring break, and we played very well in the early innings. We kept them to four runs over the first four innings. Our infield played so well this game and made some very key plays to save runs. Michelle Gallegos had two hits, Brooklyn Warren and Addi Bagwell both had one hit, but ultimately, we just couldn't make it across the plate to score. This game was very much a learning game, and has led us to know exactly what we need to continue to work on to be successful,” Head Coach Denise Browning said.

Pampa came back home to host the #1 team in the state, the Dumas Demonettes on Tuesday night.

Dumas got on the board quickly with four runs in the top of the first. Freshman Emme Hill recorded a single on a grounder to center for the only action for Pampa in the bottom of the first.

Other than a walk, the Demonettes went down quietly in the second. Pampa also went down quickly in the second so the score remained Dumas 4-0.

Dumas added one more run to their total in the third. Pampa was only able to record a walk in the bottom of the third so the score rested at 5-0 after three complete.

The Demonettes had a lead off single in the fourth but could not get any more runs from it. The Lady Harvester bats woke up in the bottom of the fourth with three straight singles from Hill on a line drive to center, Gallegos on a pop fly to center, and Bagwell on a hard grounder to right. This loaded the bases up for Junior Payton Gowin and she would double on a live drive to left to clear the bases and cut into the Dumas lead 5-3 as Hill, Gallegos, and Bagwell all scored on the play. Freshman Blaykee Cooper singled on a line drive to center as well. Reynolds singled on a grounder to center to score Gowin and the game was now 5-4 in favor of Dumas. Pampa did not score anymore in the inning but got right back in the game.

Dumas began the fifth with a single and hit batter before a huge double play ground ball as Hill fielded it and tossed to Gallegos to get two huge outs. Reynolds then ended the frame with a big strikeout.

Pampa was unable to get any action in the fifth and the score remained Dumas 5-4 heading to the sixth.

Dumas was able to put up two more runs in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. Pampa could not get anything going in the bottom of the sixth either.

Dumas exploded in the top of the seventh with seven runs to take a huge 14-4 lead into the final at-bat for the Lady Harvesters.

Pampa went down in order in the seventh to end the game.

Final score: Dumas 14, Pampa 4.

Stat Recap

Reynolds had four strikeouts in the circle. She was 1-2 with an RBI.

Hill was 2-3 with a run scored. Gallegos was 1-3 with a run scored. Gowin was 1-3 with a double, three RBIs, and a run scored. Cooper was 1-3. Senior Alicia Jiminez had the only walk for Pampa.

These two games conclude round one of district play.

“I could not be prouder of the way my girls played during this game! Dumas came out strong in the first, scoring four runs, but we kept them to only one more run up until the sixth inning. Our bats got hot in the bottom of the fourth inning, and we closed the gap with a huge RBI bringing in three runs from Payton Gowin. We played so well until the seventh, and we had two outs, and started to make some mental errors that led to the score at the end. I am incredibly proud of the work ethic, fight, and determination we showed playing the number one team in the state,” Browning said.

Pampa will host the Canyon Lady Eagles on Friday at Lady Harvester Field at 4:30 P.M. This will begin round two of district play.

“We will be playing Canyon for the second round of district this week, and it should be a great game. We played them in the very first game of district play this year and only lost by one run in the bottom of the ninth. We are excited to play them here on our own field to show how far we have come. I know there is a fire in the belly of my young team, and they are looking to prove themselves in a big way,” Browning said.
