The Pampa Lady Harvesters (3-2, 5-12) returned home Monday afternoon after a week of road games to face the Perryton Rangerettes.
The top of the first inning was a bit of a shaky start on defense with Pampa giving up two runs in the inning. However, Junior Payton Gowin was able to get two strikeouts to end the inning. It was Gowin’s first start in the circle this season.
In the bottom of the first, Sophomore Myla Zarate singled on a line drive to left to begin the one-out threat. Junior Michelle Gallegos doubled on a line drive to center. Sophomore Brooklyn Warren hit a three-run bomb to left field to give Pampa a 3-2 lead. That would be the first of the bomb squad home runs for Pampa Monday. Gowin and Freshman Addi Bagwell both singled in consecutive at-bats with two outs to start another threat for Pampa. Freshman Blayklee Cooper singled as well on a fly ball to left to score Gowin and put the Lady Harvesters up 4-2 after the first inning of play.
“We had a really great showing against Perryton today. Payton Gowin made her first pitching start of the season, and she did a fantastic job. Our fielding today was absolutely stellar with many great stops, and well timed outs. I have seen so much growth in our skill, and our confidence in the field,” Head Coach Denise Browning said.
Perryton’s second inning threat was halted with a double play recorded by Zarate, Gallegoes, and Freshman Emme Hill. The bomb squad was back in action as Senior Ella Hudson hit a solo shot to left to put Pampa ahead 5-2 quickly in the second. Zarate singled on a line drive to center. Gallegos singled on a fly ball to right to score Zarate. Warren fired up another bomb to score herself and Gallegos as it was the third bomb squad home run of the day. Pampa led 8-2. Gowin was hit by a pitch and Bagwell singled on a grounder to first. Cooper hit a fly ball and reached on an error by the center fielder which scored Bagwell and Gowin. Hudson walked in her next at-bat. Zarate struck out to end the frame but two runs scored in her at-bat due to passed balls as Cooper and Hudson both came home on separate pitches. Pampa led 12-2 after two innings.
In the top of the third, Perryton was able to score a run to cut the lead by one. The Lady Harvester bats were not done yet, however. Gallegos singled on a hard grounder to center to begin the bottom of the third. Warren singled on a hard grounder as well to left to score Gallegos, who stole second during the at-bat. Gowin hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Warren and Pampa led 14-3 after three complete.
Gowin settled in for the fourth inning and retired the side in order with a strikeout and two ground outs.
Senior Alicia Jiminez singled on a line drive to center with one-out in the fourth. Hudson singled on a line drive to shortstop. Zarate singled on a line drive to left to score Hudson and Jiminez. Gallegos walked. Warren stepped up to the plate next for the bomb squad. She belted her third home run of the game to left field, scoring herself, Zarate, and Gallegos. Pampa led 19-3 after four innings.

Sophomore Brooklyn Warren hit three home runs and Senior Ella Hudson hit one home run in the 19-3 rout of the Perryton Rangerettes.
“Our bats were hot today with eight of our nine girls getting hits at the plate. Brooklyn Warren looked effortless hitting three homeruns on the day. Ella Hudson also hit a huge homerun in the bottom of the second inning. A lot of our hitting success has come from our girls starting to relax at the plate, and just continue to put the ball in play. I’m proud of them to now be 3-2 in district, and the work continues!” Browning said.
After a leadoff single in the top of the fifth, Perryton would go down in order with Gowin recording two strikeouts and a ground out to Bagwell ended the game.
Final score/5: Pampa 19, Perryton 3.
