The Pampa Lady Harvesters (5-9, 9-25) completed their season on Tuesday night in Dumas with a 40-35 victory over the Demonettes. Head Coach Clint Watson was pleased with the performance from the girls for the final game of the season, especially being down two players.
“The Dumas game was a great team win. We were down two players (Karsyn and Myla) due to injury and illness. We came out hot and played amazing team basketball. We used full court pressure defense to cause 28 Dumas turnovers. Our defense played amazing throughout the game. I loved how we flew around the court and our rotations were on point. Offensively, we play team basketball all night. We moved the ball around and got lots of open looks,” Watson said. “The highlight of the night was when Brooklyn Warren hit a buzzer beater right at halfcourt in front of our announcers right at the halftime buzzer. The whole team was super happy for her. We took a 12 point lead at half. We came out in the third quarter with the same intensity. We were a little more patient on offense in the second half. The scoreboard showed that we only “won by five” but the game was never that close. The Lady Harvesters led and dominated all game long. It was a nice ending to our season.”
Pampa lost to Randall 61-42 on Senior Night (there were no senior girls this season) on Friday night of last week. Watson was pleased with the game despite the score.
“We came out strong and fought hard against Randall all night. The Lady Harvesters played with aggression throughout. We pressed and attacked Randall the whole game. We just ran out of gas towards the end of the game. Emmy played a spectacular game, scoring 23 points. Myla and Brooklyn played really good defense. As a team, we shot the ball better than the previous game,” Watson said.
Last Tuesday night, the Lady Harvesters traveled to Perryton needing a win to stay alive in the playoff hunt. However, they fell short 44-28 on the scoreboard. Watson said the defense kept them in the game but they just couldn’t get the shots to fall.
“It was a sluggish, defensive battle for the first half of the first quarter. We were getting some good shot attempts but we just couldn’t make anything. Our defense continued to play hard and fly around, but just not being able to score really hurt us. We had more rebounds and forced more turnovers than Perryton. We shot 19% from the field. We fell behind by around 15-17 points at one point, but our girls just kept hustling and playing hard, we even cut it to 7 or 8 points but just couldn’t get any closer,” Watson said.

This concludes the season for the Lady Harvesters as they did not make the playoffs. Despite being a young team, they were right on the cusp of the playoffs. Here is what Coach Watson had to say about the season:
“The season didn’t end quite like we wanted it to. We all wanted to chase gold balls and make deep playoff runs again. But, I’m super proud of the girls for how much we grew and overcame this season. To go into the season without any seniors (we had six sophomores and four juniors.) and no overall height, it was tough early on. We grew together so much as a team. This team is dedicated and already looking forward to working in the offseason, to be able to push for the playoffs and make a deep run next season,” Watson said.
Stay tuned next season as this young core of girls will be coming back stronger, better, and ready to set the district on fire!
