Teacher Appreciation

The Pampa Hustlin’ Harvesters (19-9, 5-3) hosted Borger on Tuesday to start their second round of District play. The Harvesters needed a game to right the ship after a tough 1-3 stretch, and they did just that with a dominant 65-30 win over the Bulldogs.

“It was nice to have a somewhat stress-free game after the rough stretch we had last week,” Head Coach Braydon Barker said. “It is always nice to get the season sweep over Borger, as well.”

The Harvesters jumped out to a 41-13 lead at the half and continued to press the Bulldogs in the second half, out-scoring their long-time rival 24-17. The Harvesters tallied 22 assists in the process.

“I believe that is the most assists we have had in a game this year,” Barker said. “I thought we passed the ball really well and found the open man. Our guards got into the paint often and made good decisions once they got there.”

The Harvesters scored 52 points in the paint, with bigs like Seniors Keegan Upton and Tristan Bagwell scoring 10 points each.

“We definitely dominated in the paint last night,” Barker said. “Like I said, our guards penetrated really well and had several great passes to our post players on the block. Our post players did a great job finishing around the rim, as well.”

It was Teacher Appreciation Night on Tuesday night. In the lead up to the evening, players from both the boys and girls basketball teams went to a teacher and gave them a jersey with the player’s number and the selected teacher’s last name on it. Teachers donned those jerseys on Tuesday as they were recognized by the team.

“I love seeing other teachers get recognized by the players,” Barker said. “Teachers make such an impact on these kids lives every day and don't get the recognition they deserve. It was great to see them get honored for at least one night.”

Friday the Harvesters will host Hereford as they continue District 4-4A Action. It will also be “Optimist Night” and winners from each age division will be presented trophies at halftime. As for Hereford, the keys will be limiting turnovers.

“We are going to have to keep their big man off the offensive glass,” Barker said. “He is a tremendous athlete and is extremely active. We are going to have to also limit our turnovers and take care of the ball offensively.”
