Our boys and girls teams managed to place third overall in the District 3-4A Championship swim meet. The top eight in each race scored points for their teams and the top four of each race will be competing next week at the Regional Championship, hosted by Andrews High School. Below are the Harvester Highlights.
Our top female swimmers were Emery Lowenstein, Madilyn Paul, and Aria Taylor. Emery Lowenstein finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth place in the 500-yard freestyle. Madilyn Paul finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly. Aria Taylor finished sixth in the 200-yard individual medley. Though none of the ladies advanced on individual events, the relays fared much better.
Starting the meet, the girls 200-yard medley relay kept us entertained. Our girls were in fourth place with two swimmers left. We gained on the other teams and were able to steal second place at the end finishing .01 second ahead of third place. The girls medley was comprised of Aria Taylor, Zayannah Baker, Madilyn Paul, and Emery Lowenstein.
The girls 200-yard freestyle relay finished fourth with Aria Taylor, Kimberly Sims, Faith Robles, and Zayannah Baker. To finish the meet, the girls 400-yard freestyle relay managed another medal finishing third with Madilyn Paul, Kimberly Sims, and Emery Lowenstein. All the girls relays advanced to the Regional Meet in Andrews.
All our male swimmers were able to score individual points. Juan Mendoza finishedseventh in the 200-yard Freestyle andfifth in the boys 500-yard Freestyle. Emmett Flood finished seventh in the 100-yard butterfly. Orion Taylor finished sixth in the 200-yard individual medley and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke. Juaquin Chavez Badillo finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Kevin Stagliano finished eighth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Archer Schroeder managed to qualify on both his individual events. In a tight 50-yard freestyle race decided by .6 seconds, Archer placed second earning a medal and a position in the regional championship. The 100-yard butterfly was another tightly contested race with all top four boys hitting the wall within 1.5 seconds of each other. Archer took third place and secured his second race in the Regional Championship.
The boys relays all qualified to swim at the Regional Championship. The 200-yard medley relay placed fourth with Kevin Stagliano, Juaquin Chavez Badillo, Emmett Flood, and Juan Mendoza. The 200-yard freestyle relay also managed fourth with Orion Taylor, Kevin Stagliano, Emmett Flood, and Archer Schroeder. To finish the meet, the boys kept the 400-yard freestyle relay interesting. They finished third coming in only two seconds behind the second place team and earning another medal. The 400-yard freestyle relay was made with Orion Taylor, Juaquin Chavez Badillo, Juan Mendoza, and Archer Schroeder. James McLatchy cheered on from the pool deck recovering from an injury.
Next stop for the Harvester Swim Team is the Regional Championship hosted by Andrews High School. We will try our best to qualify for the State Championship in San Antonio.
