The Harvester soccer team (2-2-3) traveled to WTAMU recently for a tournament.
This past weekend provided significant growth for the team as they faced several strong programs. Against Caprock, a disciplined and well-organized opponent, the Harvesters struggled in the first half and trailed 2–0 at the break. However, the second half showed a much-improved performance, with the team creating more dangerous chances in the attacking third and playing with greater confidence. The match concluded with a 3–1 final score, making the Harvesters one of only two teams to score against Caprock during the tournament, alongside Class 6A powerhouse Frenship.
The team responded well in the following match, earning a decisive 6–0 victory over Greenwood. The Harvesters controlled the pace of play throughout the match and generated the majority of their goals during this contest.
The final match of the weekend was a challenging battle against both the opponent and the elements, as extremely cold conditions and multiple injuries tested the team’s depth. Despite having three players sidelined, the Harvesters continued to compete at a high level. The lone goal came when a substitute who entered the match unexpectedly and without a full warm-up to cover for one of those said injuries. Overall, the weekend presented valuable lessons and adversity, helping the team continue to grow and prepare for the challenges ahead.
The coaching staff would also like to recognize two players for their outstanding efforts over the weekend.
“JV player Nathanyel Briones delivered a strong defensive performance, stepping up against tough competition and playing with confidence. Senior Victor de la Trinidad Gonzalez stood out for his constant energy and leadership, contributing on both the defensive and offensive ends of the field. While several players competed in all three matches, Gonzalez’s positive attitude and work rate consistently set the tone for the team,” Head Coach Martin Moreno said.
