The Pampa Hustlin’ Harvesters (6-4) traveled to Childress last weekend for an annual tournament where they went 3-1 to finish third. They took down Wellington (50-47), Idalou (41-40) and Amarillo High’s Junior Varsity (66-30) and their lone loss came
against Holliday (65-58).
“We played great defense the entire weekend other than the first half against Holliday,” Head Coach Braydon Barker said. “We scored 35 points in the first half against a very good Holliday team, but we gave up 41. That was our only bad half of defense the entire tournament.
“We also attacked the rim very well this weekend. We weren't shooting well from the perimeter, but we did a great job scoring in the paint.”
For his second straight tournament, Senior Jose Alonzo received All-Tournament Honors after scoring 59 points in three of the contests (stats unavailable for one game).

Jose Alonzo
“Jose had a great weekend of basketball,” Barker said. “He played tremendous defense and was very aggressive getting to the rim offensively. He led our team in deflections for the weekend and in scoring so he was playing well on both ends of the floor.
“His teammates found him in transition as well, so that really got our offense going against Amarillo High.”
The Harvesters’ offense goes through Senior Dalton Booth who has had games this year where he led the team in scoring. In the tournament, he averaged 10.6 points/game against Holliday, Idalou and AHS JV, as a perfect compliment to Alonzo’s offensive performance.
“Dalton has the ball in hands the majority of the game,” Barker said. “Even when he is not scoring, he is creating great looks for his teammates.
“He leads our team in assists, and he also takes care of the ball without turning the ball over. He always has very active hands defensively, so he is able to get a lot of steals.”
The Harvesters have one final tune-up before District starts at Borger next Monday as they traveled to River Road on Tuesday.
“River Road will be our last non-district game before district starts against Borger next Monday,” Barker said. “We tried several different lineups the last two weekends during tournaments, so we just need to fine tune a few things before district starts. We were much better this weekend limiting our turnovers than we were at the New Home tournament, so that was good to see.”
