The Pampa Harvester boy’s soccer team opened their season with a couple of scrimmages last weekend. They hosted Snyder on Friday and then went down to Plainview on Saturday for another scrimmage.
Friday’s scrimmage was met with anxious anticipation as the boys took the field eager to get started. While it was clear early on that the team is still developing chemistry, their performance improved steadily as the match progressed.
“The quality and effort of the players as individuals made a significant difference, and by the end of the scrimmage the team found its rhythm, finishing with a 4–0 result,” Head Coach Martin Moreno said.
On Saturday, the team traveled to Plainview and faced a very physical opponent. The boys rose to the challenge, competing hard throughout the match. Despite a tough 2–1 loss, the effort and intensity were exactly what the team needed at this stage of the season. The lone goal came from one of the team’s seniors.
“Overall, the scrimmage provided valuable experience and mirrored the level of play the team expects to see in tournament competition, district play, and hopefully the playoffs,” Moreno said.
Goals:
Senior Forward Ervin Torres (3 vs. Snyder, 1 vs. Plainview)
Junior Forward Oswaldo Anguiano (1 vs. Snyder)
Assists:
Junior Center Midfielder Daniel Jerez (2 vs. Snyder)
Sophomore Center Midfielder Brayan Montelongo (1 vs. Snyder)
Senior Forward Victor Gonzalez (1 vs. Plainview)
Pampa will host Lubbock Cooper Liberty Tuesday at 4 P.M. for another scrimmage. They will host Palo Duro on Friday for their final scrimmage at 4:30 P.M. Look for recaps on those scrimmages over the weekend or early part of next week.
The team will have a break for Christmas after those scrimmages before traveling to Sulphur Springs for a tournament on New Year’s Day.
