The Pampa Lady Harvesters (1-10) traveled to away games on both Tuesday and Friday last week. The first game was against the Childress Lady Bobcats on Tuesday night. Pampa had a lead 10-8 after the first quarter before Childress stormed back to take a 23-13 lead into the locker room at halftime. Pampa stormed back, holding Childress scoreless in the third quarter to make it a 23-22 deficit heading into the final quarter. The Bobcats exploded in the fourth quarter to win the game 27-24.

“I thought we came straight out of the gate attacking Childress as hard as possible. Karsyn got an early steal that led to the first points of the game. We jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. Childress kind of readjusted during the 2nd period and our youthfulness couldn’t get over the hump. Childress took a 23-13 lead going into halftime,” Head Coach Clint Watson said. “We were able to get our adjustments in and we held Childress scoreless for the entire 3rd quarter. Our hustle, effort and defense was thriving. I thought the 3rd quarter was the best that we have played all season. Going into the 4th quarter, we just weren’t able to get over the hump. We only scored 2 points and Childress came away with a 13 point victory. We did many great things, including forcing Childress into 29 turnovers and us grabbing 35 rebounds.”
The game Friday saw the Lady Harvesters travel to Dalhart to play the #8 ranked team in 3A in the Lady Wolves. Dalhart jumped out quickly to a 16-6 first quarter lead. They expanded the lead to 37-10 at half. The lead continued to balloon with Dalhart leading 60-17 after three quarters. The final score was 62-25 as the Lady Harvesters were able to outscore them 8-2 in the final quarter.
“Dalhart came out and attacked us from the opening tip. They are ranked #8 right now and they played like it. We made a few mistakes that Dalhart was able to capitalize on. We played a much better 2nd half. We limited Dalhart to 2 points in the 4th quarter,” Watson said.
This week, Pampa will travel to Brownfield for the 3rd Annual Hoopin' Lady Cubs Classic on Thursday through Saturday. They have no midweek game this week. Pampa opens the tournament against Portales, N.M. on Thursday at 3 P.M. Their opponents for the remainder of the tournament depend on the results of that game. They will play the winner/loser of Big Spring v. Dalhart. The bracket picture will be attached to this article.

“Going into the Brownfield tournament this weekend, I’d like to see us continue to grow together and play for each other. We have little stretches where we play our style of basketball. I would like to see that stretch out to longer periods of time. I knew we would be young and inexperienced, but we have taken many positive steps forward throughout the season. I’d like to see us continue to work on defense and improve on offense, with better shot selection. We play Portales Thursday at 3. After that, it just depends on whether we win or lose. There is a possibility of playing Dalhart again,” Watson said.

Myla Zarate
Every article, we are going to showcase one player on the team. This week, that player is Sophomore Guard Myla Zarate.

“She is an extremely hard worker. It doesn’t matter the situation or anything like that, Myla will show up and work as hard as possible. She will do whatever is needed. Against Spearman, she scored 14 points. When we play man defense, she usually guards the other team's primary ball handler. She is as tough as they come and she always has a smile on her face,” Watson said.
Pampa will travel to Brownfield this week in the last action before District play opens up on Dec. 16 as they travel to Canyon to face the Lady Eagles.
