The Pampa Hustlin’ Harvesters’ (0-2) season tipped off on Tuesday as the team traveled to Caprock and hosted Frenship-Memorial Friday at McNeely Fieldhouse here in Pampa.

The Harvesters fell to Caprock 58-31 on Tuesday, followed by a hard-fought loss to Frenship-Memorial 55-48 on Friday.

“The season hasn't started as well as we would have liked,” Head Coach Braydon Barker said. “We played a little short-handed in both games, so that has made it a little more difficult.”

The Harvesters had 44 rebounds against Caprock and 42 rebounds against Frenship-Memorial, tallying more than their opponent in both games. But Barker said the team needs to shoot the ball better and limit turnovers.

“We have not shot the ball well in either game, so far,” Barker said. “We were much more aggressive on Friday against Frenship Memorial trying to get in the paint. Our shots from the perimeter just have not started falling yet. Turnovers have also hurt us in our first two games. We have to start taking care of the basketball.”

Prior to leaving the game with an injury, Sophomore Talon Garcia had 12 points against Caprock, making an immediate impact as a young player on varsity. Senior Aaron Martinez will make his senior season debut on Monday against Plainview. Barker noted the injuries have limited his ability to tinker with different line-ups.

“Our rotations have been a little bit weird with so many guys being out,” Barker said. “We only suited up eight players against Caprock. Senior Dalton Booth was [injured], so he was unable to play against Caprock.”

Looking ahead to Plainview, Barker said they are athletic and run through one of the best players in the area, Dominic Fulton.

“Plainview is a very athletic team,” Barker said. “[Dominic Fulton] is one of the best players in the area. He is a very good shooter and athlete. We will have to handle their pressure and limit our turnovers.”
