The Pampa Lady Harvesters (15-8, 1-2) hosted their rival Borger on Tuesday night where they got the sweep (25-23, 25-13, 25-21), for the entire volleyball program, over their longtime foe for their first District win. After the Lady Harvesters secured a very wild and back-and-forth first set, they were locked in for the last two.

“In any match, winning the first almost always leads to winning the match,” Head Coach Abbey Kashwer said. “Winning the first set against Borger sets the tone for our rivalry like who wants to win this battle more.”

Getting the program sweep was not only a huge step in the right direction for the varsity squad, but the confidence will trickle down and elevate the sub-varsity players, as well.

“Losing two district games back-to-back is tough and can take the wind out of our sails,” Kashwer said. “So sweeping Borger as a program rebuilds confidence going into Hereford. It is always nice to have a win going into another tough district matchup.”

Junior Elizabeth Peet had two kills in the match and has shown a lot of improvement as the season has gone on.

“Elli has really started coming out of her shell and has improved so much since this summer,” Kashwer said. “To start season, she was competing with a few other hitters for a MB/OPP position on the court, and after her breakout game against Greenwood, she has proven why she is in the starting lineup. She is a heart working and very coachable kid.”

The Lady Harvesters return to action on Saturday when they host the Hereford Lady Whitefaces, hoping to even their District record at 2-2.

“Hereford is another team in our district that graduated some big time play makers last school year,” Kashwer said. “They will look different but also have that culture of winning. If the girls play scrappy defense like they did against Borger and we get our offense going, it should be a very competitive and fun match.”
