The Pampa Lady Harvesters 14-6 extended their winning streak to eight straight wins on Saturday when they knocked off the Dalhart Lady Wolves in their final pre-district tune-up (27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 26-24).

As they prepare for Canyon on Tuesday to open District, these Lady Harvesters are ready to take on any opponent, regardless of the name on the jersey.

“This group of girls push each other every day in the weight room and in practice,” Head Coach Abbey Kashwer said.

“They compete for starting positions. They know if they are not getting the job done in some aspect of their game, someone else is ready to go. Confidence-wise, this group does not back down, and when things get tight during a match, they find a way to either battle or win.”

First-year varsity player Junior Naya Gallegos is one of those players competing for multiple positions on the court and is always heard cheering on her teammates.

“This is Naya’s first year on varsity, and she competes for the defensive specialist/libero position,” Kashwer said. “She pushes her teammates that are also in that position. When she is not on the court, she is one of the best teammates we have on the team. You can always hear her cheering on her teammates and being involved in the game.”

The Lady Harvesters returned to action Tuesday night when they compete against Canyon. Game time was at 7 p.m. at McNeely Fieldhouse here in Pampa.

“Canyon had a large senior class last season, so there will be some new faces on the court, but our team also looks brand new,” Kashwer said. “We prepare for this match by not letting purple scare us or the results of previous matches. It’s a new year with new teams and anything is possible.”
