STATEMENT FROM PAMPA ISD

ATE: October 6, 2020

FROM: Tanya Larkin, Pampa ISD, Superintendent

As the designated spokesperson and superintendent for the Pampa Independent School District, I am issuing the following statement:

On October 6, 2020, it was reported to Pampa ISD administration that a Pampa High School student conveyed racially discriminatory and anti-LGBTQ statements prior to an away volleyball game. Pampa ISD does not condone racist or discriminatory behavior and maintains a strict policy prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, national origin or any other basis prohibited by law.  The administration, upon learning of the alleged discriminatory conduct by a student, immediately initiated an investigation and this matter was promptly addressed in accordance with Board policy and applicable codes of conduct.

Pampa ISD supports all students and takes very seriously any report or incident of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation.  It is our goal to provide a safe, diverse, positive and discrimination free learning environment where all students can thrive.

Due to state and federal privacy laws, however, the District is prohibited from disclosing any further information concerning the specifics of this matter.  Moving forward, the District is focused on mending the divisiveness created in our school by this incident and we are committed to promoting a culture of inclusion, respect and civility.  We thank our students, parents and the community for supporting us in this endeavor.  If you have information that would be beneficial in keeping our students and campus culture safe and healthy, please don’t hesitate to email us at pampaisdinfo@pampaisd.net.
