Pampa ISD COVID-19 Update #28-April 19, 2020

Good evening students and families,

We hope this update finds you well and after enjoying a beautiful weekend.  Although there is still much uncertainty involved in our future for so many areas of our lives, we do know for certain that we will not open our classrooms and campuses for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  It is with a heavy heart that we now begin making plans and provisions for how we will conclude the spring semester and bring this school year to an end.  Although we know that our events and ceremonies will not follow the traditions of the past, I assure you that we will put great effort into how we will honor and celebrate our students and staff in new, fun, exciting, and memorable ways.

As I noted in the brief update on April 17th, we have already begun forming committees of teachers, leaders, and parents to make many decisions about how we will honor and celebrate so many of our students and staff in the coming weeks.  We understand the orders given by the Governor and will honor those along with the orders from our local authorities in all of our decisions.  To see the executive order from Gov. Abbott you can click HERE.

Additionally, we are anticipating guidelines and expectations on how we are to end the academic school year later this week from the Texas Education Agency.  Please know that although our campuses are closed, we are still “having school” as we have done for the past three weeks through our @HomeLearning site We are improving this site each day and will continue to modify and enhance it to make it more useful and user-friendly for our parents and students.  The feedback we received from the @HomeLearning survey has been very helpful.  We are beginning Week 4 and will continue through May.  Once we have final details and plans, we will get those out to our students and families so you can plan accordingly.

Despite the sadness that we all feel, I am hopeful and inspired by the outpouring of support and encouragement that the people of Pampa are giving to each other and to the rest of the country.  The Lip Sync entries we received were fun, silly, inspiring, and provided us all with some laughter and tears.  We will have results from the competition out to everyone soon.  I want to thank each person who participated and who gave us a little bit of fun and fellowship to remember.

As always, we want you to know that we are here for you!  If you have questions or need assistance, please email us at pampaisdinfo@pampaisd.net or give us a call at 669-4700.   We miss you all but know that we will be together again soon!  We are #strongertogether and full of #PampaPride!

Dr. Tanya Larkin, Superintendent
