ISS Guidelines

  • If your student is assigned to ISS (In School Suspension) the following rules will apply:
  • The school day will run from 7:45 until 4:30.  If your child has made the correct behavior choices and all assignments are completed, he/she will be allowed to leave early, at 3:30.  Encourage your student to complete all assignments and follow all rules, and you will not be inconvenienced in any way.  If your child is unwilling to complete his/her assignments or misbehaves, you will need to make arrangements to pick him/her up at 4:30.  You will be contacted if you need to pick him/her up.
  • Any student who assigned to ISS is to enter and leave by the door at the back of the cafeteria.  Entering and exiting at the regular grade level door is not allowed.  After school, he/she must leave campus immediately.  They will need to wait right across the street from the band hall entrance for their ride, if they do not ride the bus.
  • Students will be provided with a nutritious lunch from the cafeteria.  It will be brought to them, and they will not be given a choice or be allowed snack foods.
  • Misbehavior in ISS that is persistent enough to require an office referral will result in the SRO (School Resource Officer) being called.  His usual course of action is a warning ticket for the first referral, a ticket for the second referral, and arrest and transport to JPO on the third referral.  He, of course, can make the decision to modify that based on the situation.  We have a very qualified and well trained staff member in the ISS room.  Students are expected to follow her instructions and all ISS rules.
  • Anytime a student is assigned to ISS, we will attempt to contact you.  If we do not have a correct phone number, or you do not answer, we may leave a message or note that we tried unsuccessfully to reach you.  If we cannot reach you, the student will still serve the ISS time.  The student is given a copy of the referral when the offense is handled in the office.  One copy is also mailed home.  It is your child’s responsibility to inform you of any ISS assignment in case we are unable to reach you.
  • Anytime a student is absent from school on a day assigned to ISS, he/she will make it up on the next day back at school.  Please keep in mind that if you withdraw the student, the days must still be served at the next school enrolled.
  • Students assigned to ISS are not permitted to attend or participate in extracurricular activities.
  • The discipline assistant principal is Mrs. Susan Baker.  If you have any questions or concerns involving ISS, please do not hesitate to call her at 669-4900.  The ISS staff member is Mrs. Dora Ryan.
