Dear Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you about our dress code policy and clear up any misunderstandings.  I would hate for you to spend money on clothing that your child will not be allowed to wear.  Please remember that the policies are in place for the safety, well-being, and benefit of our students, and remember that the clothes must be appropriate for children ages 11 to 14.

These items are not allowed:

  • Sleeveless shirts with excessively large armholes
  • Tank tops or tube tops.  Straps must be at least 1 ½”wide
  • Shirts which reveal cleavage or bring attention to the chest area
  • Shirts which expose the midriff
  • Shorts and skirts above mid-thigh
  • Excessively saggy pants.
  • Chains on any garment
  • Any clothing depicting death, violence, and gore
  • Any clothing that is lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene
  • Any clothing that advertises or depicts tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or other prohibited substances
  • Shirts with a suggestive slogan or an inappropriate play on words
  • Shirts with dual meanings or express racism/anarchy
  • Pants or shorts with writing across the seat
  • Pajamas (tops or bottoms)
  • Any clothing that can be construed as gang apparel or worn in the gang style in order to express affiliation with a gang.
  • Any clothing the administration feels is a safety concern
  • Any clothing that, in the opinion of an administrator, is devisive or could cause problems with other students

Also remember that hair must be a natural color, and no body or facial piercings are allowed other than the lobe of the ear.  No tattoos are allowed, and students are not allowed to “tag” or write on themselves.

There is a teacher in each hall designated as the one responsible for dress code.  Those teachers and the administrators have the authority to make decisions determining the appropriateness of student grooming and attire.  If a student is determined to be in violation of the dress code, they might be offered a shirt to change into for the day, or they will be calling you to bring them a more appropriate garment.  If you cannot be reached, they will be placed in ISS for the day or until you can be reached.

Thank you so much for your cooperation.  I hope this helps you as you shop for clothing.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school.

Sincerely,

Susan Baker
