PJHS Cafeteria
The 2006-2007 lunch schedule for PJHS is as follows:
- 10:39- 11:09 7th Grade
- 11:31- 12:01 8th Grade
- 12:23- 12:53 6th Grade
Parents are free to come up and have lunch with their student anytime. It is against federal and state policies and laws for a parent to bring food into a school cafeteria for any child other than their own. We are asking your cooperation in this matter.
The beginning of school is often hectic in the cafeteria, especially for our 6th graders. After a couple of weeks, it all works out. You will find that everyone has plenty of time to eat.
Cafeteria Guidelines:
- Students are allowed to sit where they want unless they are breaking rules or acting in an inappropriate way. It is the right and responsibility of any staff member on duty to remove the child to another area if problems should occur.
- Talking is allowed, but we do expect students to use quiet voices and good manners at all times.
- Junior high students are allowed a great deal of freedom in the cafeteria as far as food choices, seating, etc. They are expected to treat the staff members on duty and the cafeteria ladies with respect. If problems should occur, consequences will be given including loss of the privilege to buy snacks for a certain amount of time.
- Any throwing of food will be dealt with by at least one day of ISS and other consequences as appropriate. It will not be tolerated.
- If a student eats food off another student’s tray, the food will be replaced from the offending student’s account.
- Students are not allowed to save places for their friends in line or to “cut” in line for any reason.
- Students are expected to clean up after themselves. They are to take their trash and their tray to the return window and make sure any spills and crumbs are wiped up around their area.
- No backpacks, binders, or purses will be allowed in the cafeteria. Students will be leaving these items in their locked classrooms. This will eliminate spills destroying student items, backpacks will no longer jam the aisles and cause a safety hazard, and nothing will be left unattended on tables to be stolen or misplaced.
- After about 15 minutes into the lunch period, a staff member will go outside. As students finish their lunch, they are allowed to go outside to the blacktop for a recess period. Unless they are in line or putting up their tray to go outside, students are expected to be in their seats.
- When the whistle blows in the cafeteria signaling two minutes until lunch is over, students are expected to finish their food and put their tray up immediately. When the last whistle blows, they are expected to clear the cafeteria.
Please keep track of when your student needs lunch money. After a certain number of charges, the cafeteria ladies must provide a cheese sandwich and a carton of milk. This is often embarrassing for this age child, and they will go hungry rather than ask for food.
Our students usually behave very well during lunch. We want it to be a relaxing time to talk to their friends and socialize. We do have limited personnel, and sometimes we do not see everything. Often, if a child is having problems, it will happen at lunch. You can help us by questioning your student about lunchtime and reporting to us if you think there might be a problem. If we know a student is having a problem, we can keep a good eye on the situation.
