Congratulations to Coach and Pampa High School teacher, Tad Smith, on being selected as the 2023-2024 Harvester Spirit Award recipient! Tad Smith has worked for Pampa ISD, and specifically at Pampa High School for 35 years. That is 5 Decades (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s)! He has taught at PHS under the direction of 8 principals. He has worked as Science Department Head for many years and served on many, many district leadership committees over the years. In addition, he has coached Varsity Soccer, Football, and Track and he has coached players in playoff games numerous times over the years. He has also taken countless students to Austin to compete in state track meets. He also has a special interest in coaching UIL field and track wheelchair events for PISD disabled students.
Coach Smith was selected for PHS Teacher of the Year at least one time if not more. Coach Smith literally bleeds "Green and Gold". During football games, he is often seen frantically jumping up and down on the field out of excitement to fire up the players and celebrate them. He has an exceptional unique way of coaching and supporting athletes. In addition to his position at Pampa ISD, Coach Smith is extremely involved in the community and serves others well. He has volunteered with Wheel Times, Pregnancy Support Center, and Snack Pack For Kids, just to name a few. He has also served as youth minister at his church and has gone on several mission trips. He recently coordinated a relief effort for the City of Perryton, due to the tornado damage in their community. An effort to take one trailer of relief items to Perryton grew into a full-blown City of Pampa relief effort under his direction. Due to his efforts, the City of Pampa was able to provide multiple trailers of relief items to the City of Perryton. Coach Smith is a role model for Pampa ISD Students, staff, and the Pampa Community. He consistently goes above and beyond demonstrating the mission, vision, and goals of Pampa ISD: Show Up, Work Hard, Serve Others.
"Tad exemplifies the true Harvester Spirit in every way imaginable. He shows up when we have dress-up days and outdoes everyone. He is an amazing, caring teacher and coach. He models servant leadership by volunteering for activities in the school and outside of the school. He makes me proud to work for Pampa."
